Over 30,000 of the more than 60,000 photographs in the Library's photograph collection are from the Victoria Advocate. Founded in 1846, the Advocate is Texas' second oldest continuously published newspaper.
The collection spans the years from 1949 to 1986. Only photographs taken by Advocate staff photographers are included in this collection, there are no contributed photographs in the collection. There may be many negatives of a single event in the morgue, while only 1 or 2 shots were actually printed in the newspaper. There are some gaps in the collection.
Our digital collection begins with photographs of Victoria College people and events covered in the Advocate from 1949 - 1955.
